The Francis-Stephen-Award & Promotion-Award

An Initiative of the Austrian Society for Eighteenth Century Studies 

In memory to Emperor Francis Stephen of Lorraine’s special role as patron to science and the arts in and for „Austria“, the ÖGE 18 bestows two prizes every second year. Aim is to advance excellent scholars of arts and humanities.

The FRANCIS-STEPHEN-AWARD of the History and Culture of the Habsburg monarchy in the Eighteenth Century is awarded to Dissertations (post graduated theses) or papers of equivalent importance about the Habsburg Monarchy of the Eighteenth Century. Submissions may be written in German, French or English.

The FRANCIS-STEPHEN-PROMOTION-AWARD goes to excellent theses at the master’s degree level. The call for applications addresses graduates in humanities. Submissions must deal with a topic from the field of eighteenth-century studies and have been presented at an Austrian university.

With these awards, the society aims to promote lasting interest in eighteenth-century studies.
